Elephants Galore in Hluhluwe Game Reserve
Visitors to Hluhluwe Game Reserve at present are witnessing some magnificent Elephant sightings. At present we are seeing Elephants on all of our Game Drive safaris to both Hluhluwe and Umfolozi.
The cats however have been a bit scarce this due to the presence of the Elephants. Our lead guide encountered a silly motorist over the weekend, during his safari he was busy crossing a river and noticed a vehicle parked on the bridge. Slowly and cautiously stopping behind the vehicle the guide noticed a herd of Elephants to the side, realising that the vehicles (both) now where blocking their route the guide slowly reversed to a safe distance and beckoned the motorist in front to do the same, however after repeated attempts to get the traveller to get out of the way the herd finally decided that they had had enough and started crossing. All went well until a bull that had already passed the vehicle stopped turned around and without any warning stampeded the vehicle.
The vehicle no match for a disgruntled Elephant obviously had make his mark ( lets hope not a rental), the Elephant turned and quietly dissapeared into the bush.
Please take care when in Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve or any other Reserve, one has to take care and be observant, keep your distance and should you be beckoned away from a sighting please do so its for your safety.
The Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park Elephants do migrate from side to side. The best way to find them would be to ask any safari tour operator or the Ezemvelo staff at the gates. Witnessing the Elephants is incredible and truly a blessed sight.
